Bruant: 20 years of a sulphite-free revolution
In 2025, Art Laietà (Alta Alella) marks a remarkable milestone: 20 vintages crafting wines with no added sulphites
The story began back in 2006, with the release of Bruant, the very first sulphite-free cava under the DO Cava appellation. At the time, it was nothing short of revolutionary. Made without additives, through gentle, respectful winemaking and a deep commitment to the land, Bruant became a symbol of a new mindset for the Pujol-Busquets family — wines and cavas that are more honest, more vibrant, and more transparent. Two decades later, that philosophy of minimal intervention remains at the heart of everything we do.
That early vision has since evolved into Celler de les Aus, the most radical expression of Art Laietà, founded in 2012 by Mireia Pujol-Busquets, second generation and deputy director of the estate. These natural wines capture, with total purity, the essence of our Mediterranean landscape — the character of the sauló sandy soil, the sea breeze, and the energy of our surrounding nature.
“Working without sulphites was a daring move,” says Mireia. “But we’ve always believed that the future of wine lies in authenticity and minimal intervention. Today, these wines are the clearest expression of our philosophy and our terroir.”
This ongoing commitment to sustainability and innovation was recently recognised with the Best Young Initiative Award at the BBVA Sustainable Producers Awards, presented by a jury including BBVA and El Celler de Can Roca.
Alongside Bruant (a cava made from the Pansa Blanca variety), Celler de les Aus also crafts two ancestral wines: Puput Pét-Nat (Pansa Blanca) and Puput Rosé Pét-Nat (Mataró), and three still wines: Tallarol (a still white wine fermented in concrete egg), Orange (a skin-contact blend of Pansa Blanca and Pansa Rosada aged in amphora), and Merla (a red wine made from Mataró grapes matured in foudre).
