Cava Opus Paraje Calificado Vallcirera (Guarda Superior)
DO Cava · Brut Nature

Crafted from organically grown Pansa Blanca and Chardonnay grapes from the Vallcirera Paraje, a unique site with distinctive soil and microclimatic conditions. The Paraje Vallcirera is located in the Serralada de Marina Natural Park, between the towns of Alella and Tiana, just 1.5 km from the Mediterranean Sea and 12 km from Barcelona. The vines grow in Sauló soil – an acidic, granitic sandy soil with low limestone content, little organic matter, and excellent natural drainage. The grapes come from two plots planted in 1992 at 140 meters above sea level, with yields below 6,000 kg/ha. Made following the traditional method, this cava is aged for a minimum of 64 months on the lees. Each bottle is hand-disgorged and released with the disgorgement date and precise ageing months stated.

VINTAGE 2020: A rainy spring led to strong vegetative growth and consequent fungal attacks on the grapes, especially mildew, resulting in low yields in our area. Wild boars, emboldened by reduced forest management during the pandemic, also caused grape losses in previously unaffected vineyards. The combination of low yields and intense August heat accelerated ripening, resulting in one of the earliest harvests in recent years. A vintage of limited quantity but good quality.

“Tasted blind. Remarkably powerful, lots of aromas and flavours. The oak is perfectly integrated. On the nose, it has some toasty note that I don’t find on the palate. Dry style, I like the mellow texture and the finesse of the mousse. Quite ample with brioche and creamy aftertaste. Very complete and delightful wine. A great vintage!”
