At the beginning of 2022, Alta Alella joined the Barcelona Biosphere Commitment to Sustainable Tourism, a distinction that recognizes those tour operators that are committed to: environmental sustainability, culture, working conditions, gender equality and social and economic return.
Recently, the winery has also received the Safe Travels stamp, promoted by The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC). This distinction recognizes safe travel protocols on a global scale and allows travelers to identify companies, entities, and destinations in any country in the world that have adopted security and prevention measures protocols against COVID-19.
With both mentions, Alta Alella reinforces its commitment to safe, sustainable and quality wine tourism.

The craft beer Mataró Barrel Aged, made with organic Mataró grape must, has won the gold medal at the Barcelona Beer Challenge 2022 international contest within the category ‘Italian Grape Ale’. It is fermented with wild grape yeast, aged in barrel for 4 months and is gluten-free.
Alta Alella and Molta Malta’s Grape Ale project was born from the friendship between Mireia Pujol-Busquets, Alta Alella’s second generation, and Adrià Felisart, owner of Molta Malta, the first craft beer store in Mataró. Both share lifelong experiences and friendship: they were schoolmates since they were children and they studied together Biology at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Sharing a love and respect for nature, they decided to create this project together. It began with the production of two Grape Ale beers in the 2019 vintage, one from Chardonnay and one from Mataró, and continued with the 2020 vintage and the release of a new product, the Grape Ale Barrel Aged from Mataró.

Alta Alella is once again a pioneer in the cava sector and reinforces its commitment to the guarantee, traceability, and quality of the product. The winery has already been recognized with the Cava de Paraje qualification since it was conceived, and now receives the new Integral Producer stamp certified by the Cava Regulatory Council. This stamp enables the customer to identify more easily those wineries of the D.O. Cava that carry out the entire Cava production process at their own estate, which implies a guarantee of product traceability. In this way, it certifies that the entire production of the Pujol-Busquets family is carried out on the property, without buying wine or bottles from other producers, and that their cavas are marketed under brands that are not shared with other cava producers. This measure is in addition to the recent changes in the zoning and segmentation of the DO, with the aim of promoting the status of cava.
The Integral Producer stamp implies rigorous compliance with the Regulatory Board’s requirements, which is a further step in the quality demands that Alta Alella imposes on itself for all its products. During the next days, the family will adapt the labelling of all its cavas to the regulations so that the bottles will bear the stamp.
Commitment to nature and the product
Cava is embarking on a new stage towards the elite and Alta Alella is an active part of this journey, being the precursor of each new quality qualification awarded by the Cava Regulatory Council. This is possible not only because of the quality of its cavas, but also because of its commitment to the origin, the land, and sustainability.
In July 2017, the winery was one of the first to obtain the Paraje Calificado certification from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, a recognition of the singularity of Paraje Vallcirera. That same year, we presented our two cavas certified with the Cava de Paraje Calificado Vallcirera seal: Alta Alella Mirgin Exeo and Alta Alella Mirgin Opus. In addition, Vallcirera is the only Paraje Calificado ecologic since the beginning, and located in a natural park. Now, at the beginning of 2022, the Pujol-Busquets family has also been honored with the rigorous Integral Producer stamp, a certification that only 13 of the 370 wineries that make Cava have received.

The second day of Barcelona Wine Week hosted the exclusive tasting of “The Magnificent 7”, led by the journalist and sommelier Ramon Francàs. A unique tasting with 7 great sparkling wines with long ageing, including the Pujol-Busquets collectible cava Alta Alella 10 Gran Reserva.
Mireia Pujol-Busquets, owner of Alta Alella, joined Francàs and the 6 other cava producers to introduce Alta Alella 10, a sparkling wine “made with a ‘Gran vin’ philosophy and which shows the elegant passage of time”, she described.
After a short ageing, the Méthode Traditionelle Champenoise is applied with a minimum ageing period on lees of 10 years. This singular sparkling wine is the result of combining: Sauló soil from Can Genís Estate –a sandy granitic soil–, the exceptional and unique climate characteristics from Serra de Mar area, and many years of experience making high quality cavas.
