Organic cava

Alta Alella LAIETÀ Gran Reserva: 92

“Pale sesame seed and miso flavors meet in this clean, savory sparkler. Completely dry, it presents xarel-lo under the light influence of chardonnay and pinot noir. An austere Cava to pour with cracked crab.” – Wine & Spirits Magazine

Alta Alella MIRGIN Rosé Reserva: 90

“Rustic austerity takes this monastrell rosé toward tannins in its red fruit flavors that last. Dried cherries and Ruby Red grapefruit hold to the sense of austerity. For cured duck sausages.” – Wine & Spirits Magazine

Alta Alella Mirgin EXEO Paraje Calificado Vallcirera: 90

“Rich and not overtly sweet, this blend of xarel-lo and chardonnay has a peach melba flavor to its toasty fruit, clean and fresh. Tinged in pink.” – Wine & Spirits Magazine

Natural cava (no added sufites)

AUS Bruant: 91

“There’s sweetness to this xarel-lo’s underripe strawberry flavors and caramelized baked-apple notes. The texture is creamy, even as the acidity provides lasting freshness. For caviar-topped fried oysters.” – Wine & Spirits Magazine

Alta Alella receives the Best Cultural Experience Award by Premis Vinari

2022.03.14 – Foto: Jordi Play (vadevi)

The activity ‘Microtheatre amongst vineyards’ has received the award for the Best Wine Tourism experience in the areas of Culture, Social and Sports.

Alta Alella has been awarded at the Wine Tourism Vinari Awards with the activity ‘Microtheatre amongst vineyards’, which the winery organizes together with the entity Microsensacions teatrals, as the Best Wine Tourism Experience in the areas of Culture, Social and Sports. A distinction ex aequo with ‘Camins del Cava’, an activity organized by AECAVA.

The Vinari Wine Tourism Awards, now in their second edition, aim to promote and boost quality wine tourism in Catalonia as a local activity and to encourage its practice. At the awards ceremony, held on 31 March in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, Mireia Pujol-Busquets expressed her gratitude for the award to the entire organization and her wine tourism team, and also took the opportunity to highlight the avant-garde philosophy of the winery and the family: “We have been pioneers in terms of product and viticulture, we have been practising organic farming for 30 years, since the beginning, and we have been making sulphite-free wines for 18 years, and with wine tourism we have also wanted to be innovative. We decided 10 years ago that we wanted to share the culture of wine in a very personalized way. With wine tourism we have the opportunity to create customer loyalty through the experience and this is unbeatable”, she pointed out.

Alta Alella is located in the heart of the Serralada de Marina Natural Park, a privileged area just 10 km from Barcelona and 2 km from the sea. The winery’s Wine Tourism Centre is open almost every day of the year, and organizes weekly activities, from visits, tastings and wine pairings, to less common experiences in a winery, such as yoga sessions, theatre, book presentations, children’s workshops, etc. “One of the nice things about wine tourism is that you can create synergies with other sectors: music, art, gastronomy, theatre… With whom we share values and can communicate the culture of wine in a more personalized and original way”, explains Mireia.

Microtheatre among vineyards

This award-winning wine tourism experience is a circuit of small-format plays staged in alternative spaces. During the activity, different areas of the estate (cellar, cellar, vineyard…) are transformed into theatrical scenarios, where the audience enjoys 3 plays from different companies coordinated by the entity Microsensacions teatrals. Each play includes a tasting of a wine or cava from the winery, guided by a member of the sommelier team.

This is a cultural proposal that focuses on the sensations of the participants, both out of their everyday space, rather than the more careful aesthetics normally required for a regular show, playing at being part of what is happening and will not be repeated.

The activity was programmed on several occasions during 2022, this season has already been experienced in the month of February and we hope to be able to offer it again very soon! For the meantime, we welcome you to check out our agenda of activities.

2023.01.11

The 2023 issue of the wine guide ‘Vivir el Vino’ includes six organic wines and cavas from Alta Alella. Amongst the references tasted and rated by Raúl Serrano -sommelier and editorial director- Alta Alella 10 2012 has been the top ranked. It is the collectible cava from the Pujol-Busquets family that stands out for its singularity, marked by the Sauló soil, the climate of the Serra de Mar area and the long ageing process.

98 · Alta Alella 10 2012
“Fresh and complex fruit, with an elegant and restrained acidity and a marked varietal typicity. This 2012 could share the market not only with the previous vintage, but also with earlier ones thanks to its expressiveness and longevity, as well as its elegance, finesse and endless aftertaste”. – Raúl Serrano

94 · Alta Alella Cau d’en Genís (white)
“Intense, clean and clearly vegetal. The xarel-lo is dominant with an excellent stone fruit skin and candied fruit, which gives way to notes of lime, hot stone and white flowers on a light background of seaweed and quince flesh. The palate is full-bodied and maintains the complexity of the nose. The aromas meld as it progresses to give way to good acidity and a long, lingering finish.” – Raúl Serrano

Alta Alella 10, chosen as the best cava for the second year in a row

2022.11.29

For the second year in a row, the Peñín Guide has chosen Alta Alella 10 Gran Reserva as the best Cava within the appellation. In this edition, the two vintages of the Pujol-Busquets Family’s collection wine, 2010 and 2012, has received the best cava ratings. Two other cavas from the winery follow on the podium (95+): Alta Alella Mirgin Exeo Paraje Calificado Vallcirera 2016 and Alta Alella Mirgin Exeo Evolució+ Gran Reserva 2005. A milestone that reinforces the winery’s commitment to high-end cava and consolidates its leadership among great wines.

The Pujol-Busquets family has released to the market the new vintage of Alta Alella 10: 2012. It is a singular cava made with a “Grand Vin” philosophy, which stands out for its enormous freshness, without losing elegance and complexity. A freshness that lasts after 10 years of perseverance which, according to Josep Maria Pujol-Busquets, is the sum of various factors: “the long ageing, the grape’s own characteristics, the Sauló soil where the vines grow and the unique climate of the Serra de Mar area”.

The aim, Mireia Pujol-Busquets explains, is “to escape from standardisation and create a cava that aligns with the style of the great wines of the world”. Alta Alella 10 was born following this line: a vintage, organic, collectible cava, which highlights the elegant passage of time.

Alta Alella 10 is made with a selection of the best grapes from the singular vineyard ‘Torrent Vallcirera’ –currently a qualified area for premium cava–. The whole grapes are gently pressed and the first fermentation is carried out in French oak barrels. Afterwards, the traditional method is applied with a minimum ageing period on lees of 10 years. Released on the market without any dosage, with the disgorgement date stated on its label.

2022.11.22

Wine Enthusiast has chosen the Alta Alella MIRGIN OPUS Paraje Calificado Vallcirera cava as one of the best 100 wines of 2022. The prestigious American magazine has blind tasted and scored up to 21,000 references in order to determine this accurate selection. In the tasting note, Mike Desimone highlights: ” Deep straw in color and with a soft effervescence, this wine has aromas of red Delicious apple, canned peach and almond blossom. It offers flavors of toast with lemon curd, lime zest, grated coconut and a soft hint of mocha that are followed by a burst of citrus on the finish”.

Alta Alella MIRGIN OPUS – Paraje Calificado Vallcirera leads the highest category of the DO Cava, together with Alta Alella Mirgin Exeo – Paraje Calificado Vallcirera.
